Scrivix Help & Support

Quick fixes for pairing, permissions, video, Control Mode, and local network issues.

⬇️ Do I need the Mac companion app?

Yes. Scrivix Remote for iPad requires the free Scrivix Mac companion app. The Mac app must be open and running on the same local network as your iPad.

Download the Mac App

🔐 The iPad is asking for a passcode. Where do I find it?

Open the Scrivix Mac app. A small pairing window will show a 4-digit passcode. Enter that code on your iPad to start the session.

If the code is hidden behind another macOS permission popup, move the Scrivix window or bring the permission popup forward.

✅ The Mac app says I need permissions. What should I allow?

Scrivix needs macOS permissions so it can show your screen on iPad and control your Mac in Control Mode:
  • Screen Recording: required for sending your Mac screen to the iPad.
  • Computer Control / Accessibility: required for clicking, dragging, right-clicking, scrolling, and cursor movement in Control Mode.

Use the permission checklist in the Mac app to open the correct macOS Settings pages. After changing permissions, you may need to quit and reopen Scrivix on your Mac.

🔄 The iPad will not connect or says Reconnecting.

Try these steps:
  • Make sure Scrivix is open on your Mac and showing the pairing passcode.
  • Confirm your iPad and Mac are on the same Wi-Fi network.
  • Quit the Scrivix Mac app completely and reopen it.
  • Close and reopen Scrivix Remote on your iPad.
  • If you recently changed permissions, restart the Mac app.

📱 My devices still are not seeing each other. What should I check?

Scrivix connects over your local network, so your Mac and iPad need to be allowed to talk directly:
  • Same Wi-Fi Network: verify that both devices are connected to the same network name.
  • Local Network Access: on iPad, open Settings, find Scrivix, and make sure Local Network is turned on.
  • Firewall: on Mac, go to System Settings, Network, Firewall, and make sure Scrivix is allowed to accept incoming connections.
  • Public Wi-Fi: school, office, hotel, and coffee shop networks may block local device discovery. Try a personal hotspot or a private network.

🖥️ The video feed is blank or does not come back after a while.

First, check that Screen Recording permission is enabled for Scrivix on your Mac. If permission is enabled but video does not return, quit and reopen the Mac companion app, then reconnect from iPad.

Also make sure your Mac is awake and not switching networks after sleep.

🖱️ Control Mode is not clicking, dragging, or scrolling.

Control Mode requires Computer Control / Accessibility permission on your Mac. Enable it in macOS Settings, then quit and reopen Scrivix.

  • Tap: left click.
  • Double tap: double-click.
  • Tap and hold: right-click.
  • Tap-hold-drag: click and drag windows or items.
  • Two-finger scroll: scroll documents and webpages.

✍️ My finger or palm is making accidental marks.

Turn on Apple Pencil Only mode. This limits drawing input to Apple Pencil and helps prevent accidental marks from your hand or finger while writing.

🖼️ My overlay or whiteboard background disappeared after clearing.

The Clear button removes annotations while keeping the active overlay or whiteboard background in place. If your background changes unexpectedly, choose the overlay again from the display icon menu.

Press and hold the display icon to choose white, black, graph paper, lined paper, or a photo background.

📸 Why does my screenshot not include the iPad toolbar?

Scrivix saves clean screenshots of the canvas or presentation area only. Toolbar controls and menu bubbles are intentionally left out so the image is ready to share or save.

⚡️ I am noticing lag or delayed strokes. How can I improve it?

Scrivix is designed for low-latency local networking. If strokes feel delayed, Wi-Fi congestion is usually the cause.

  • Move closer to your Wi-Fi router.
  • Connect your Mac to Ethernet if possible.
  • Close heavy network apps or large downloads.
  • Use a private home or office network instead of public Wi-Fi.
